Blog 1, Baracks speech:
In this speech Obama uses the word faith as connection between all religions in order to prevail the idea that even though every religion has different beliefs or ideas, they all share similar morals in which people from every religion can connect or agree on. He evokes the idea that once we all agree on similar morals and have a open mind to different view points that we as a country will be able to thrive. If secularist can move past the idea of "leaving behind religion when entering the public square" (Barack) and religious people can enter with personal morals rather than what the bible commands them to do then shedding some biases to agree on deeper values or morals will be much more achievable according the Mr. Obama. He argues that we have to accept that this is more than a christian nation but a nation in which you can practice whatever religion you please, and that once this is accepted that we will better of as a nation when it comes to speaking on religious matters in regards to politics and we will be able to speak a bit more open-minded towards this subject. In his second point he states that even though he may believe in something due to his religious practice, doesn't mean that he should completely ignore or undermine it because that would not be approaching the topic with a open mind. An underlining purpose in this speech was not to address the religion issue but the issue that everyone needs to approach each topic with an open mind in which logic can sway your opinion on something. Once this is obtainable, the nation as a whole will not only be able to speech on religious matters but agree on subjects that normally would sway their vote. An open mind is key to the nation's success.
